My Story

When I was five years old, I told my teacher I wanted to be a rock star when I grew up. One year later, I changed my mind and decided to be an author and an illustrator instead. Ten years later, I figured I would probably be better off letting someone else handle the drawings. Twenty years later, I was proven right.

I write stories for kids. And for people who have kids. And for people who don't have kids. And for monsters — particularly the misunderstood ones.

Sometimes the stories have pictures. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes they're in books. Sometimes they're in my head. I try to put the good ones in books.

ACCOLADES

The metaphor of “impossible doors” leading toward unending universes, where even the smallest changes reverberate, provides a unique framework for themes of grief and healing.
